Tips to buy the perfect camera for your needs

This was the first time that consumers have ever had such good quality cameras. The market for cameras used to be simple. Professionals had the choice of a large and bulky single lens reflex camera, while the more common option for consumers, or moms and dads, was the compact point-and-shoot.

It is now a completely different world. There are many types of cameras on the market. You will find a variety of cameras on websites like Flipkart and Amazon.

Tips to buy the perfect camera for your needs

Which camera is right for you? This depends on your expectations of the camera. In a way, most cameras on the market today are capable of clicking photos you can share on Facebook or Instagram. You can choose any camera that you want to click photos at sunny noon and get the results you desire. It becomes a little more difficult when you add words such as low-light photography, wild-life photography, and travel photography.

Make sure to understand why you’re buying a camera before you purchase it. This is especially important nowadays since you can take photos with your smartphone. Some of these phones, such as the iPhone 6S, Galaxy S6 or Nexus 5X, and the Xiaomi Mi 4, have excellent cameras. Here’s what to buy once you have decided on your objective.

Daily shooting with the camera

For daily shooting, you can either buy a point-and shoot or compact mirrorless cameras. While DSLR cameras can be very powerful, you don’t really need them. You will actually use a point and shoot or mirrorless camera more, because it is lighter to transport and easier to use. You can just keep the camera on auto mode, and take the picture when needed. There is no need to adjust metering settings or change lenses. Make sure you know your budget before choosing a camera with the best lens (aka aperture value) or largest image sensor. Megapixels are irrelevant. Zoom is irrelevant. If you’re looking for a camera with a 1-inch image sensor, 10-megapixel resolution, F2.0 lens, but 3X zoom, then you should consider a comparable priced camera with a 1/3-inch sensor, 20-megapixel image size and 30X zoom.

Travel photography requires a camera

Mirrorless cameras paired with two lenses work well for most travel photography. You could use one of these lenses for general purposes, such as the one you received with your camera. The other lens could be used to capture wide open areas, such as beaches or large valleys, using a moderate zoom lens. You can use the same lens to take photos at the zoo, etc.

If this is an expensive option, you should consider a point-and-shoot. Only buy a DSLR camera if you can bear the complexity and bulk, which is what you want to avoid on your travels.

You might also want to check out the mirrorless cameras that have fixed lenses and a fixed focal length (no zoom). Although these are more expensive, the fixed lens is often of high quality and makes them great for casual and street photography, even at night.

Low-light photography is a popular choice

You can either buy a DSLR or a mirrorless camera to capture the pub scene on Friday nights. Pair it with an F1.8 lens. If you are looking to take photos at a party, birthday or other special occasions, bulky cameras will not look great. A compact camera with a minimum 1-inch image sensor (F2 or lower) and a sharp lens is an alternative.

You are interested in wildlife, action or sports photography

DSLR cameras are the best. Because they have the right focus system and controls, these cameras are best suited for this type of photography. Although mirrorless cameras are improving, they are still not perfect. Superzoom cameras are not something to be considered. They are useless. You can pair the DSLR camera and a zoom lens with at least 300mm reach.

All you need is one camera

A DSLR camera is the best choice for getting the best results. It will also mean that you will need to spend money on lenses. They are expensive. You may not realize it, but you could have spent Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 Lakh on your gear over the years. As mentioned, DSLR cameras are bulky and can be difficult to use. Cameras like the Sony RX100IV and a mirrorless with an F1.8 or F2.8 lens are great for all-purpose photography.

Nikon Coolpix P340 – Sold at a cost of Rs 17,000, this compact camera is worth considering if you don’t want to spend more than Rs 20,000. The reason: A large image sensor and an excellent F1.8 lens.

Sony RX 100 IV. All of Sony’s RX 100 camera are excellent buys at their respective prices. The RX 100, a 4-year-old camera, is still available for sale at Rs 26,000. The fourth generation RX 100 IV, however, is the most expensive and best. The camera is priced at Rs 60,000, but it’s so great that it could be your only camera.

Sony A6000: We recommend this mirrorless camera. However, it is not recommended to be purchased with the kit lens. For around Rs 43,000, you can buy the body. Pair it with a two-lens set – a fast, small lens and an all-purpose zoom. Although the setup is expensive, it’s well worth it. Consider RX 100 IV if you don’t need to spend that much.
